FACE Board Member Agreement
As a member of The Fine Arts and Cultural Events (FACE) of Mahaska County Board of Directors, I understand that I have an obligation to ensure that the organization does the best possible work in pursuit of its mission to provide exceptional art education and make art exciting and accessible to the community.

As part of my responsibilities as a Board Member: I will

● Attend a minimum of 75% of board meetings, including retreats, special meetings, and committee meetings. I will attend at least two of the Oskaloosa Art Center ‘s special events and serve on at least one board standing committee. With rare exception, failure to meet this commitment will result in the board member giving up their seat on the board.
● Consider fundraising to be a key responsibility in support of FACE’s short and long term goals. I will support the creation and implementation of a fundraising strategy.
● Be a member in good standing of FACE.
● Participate in the board development process and ensure the board is self-perpetuating and efficient through identification of skills needed and recruitment; I will participate in a board self-evaluation process regularly.
● Recognize the importance of the board/executive director partnership and interdependence.
● Interpret the organization’s work and values to the community and represent FACE in a positive manner.
● Approve budgets and review monthly financial reports to ensure proper financial management.
● Work with other board members and staff in strategic planning and implementation in good faith as partners toward achievement of FACE’s mission, vision, and goals.
● Speak with one voice when a board decision is made and maintain confidentiality on board discussions.
● Act in the best interest of the organization, and excuse myself from discussions and votes where I have a conflict of interest.
● Stay informed about what is going on in the organization. I will participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, policies, and other board matters.

If I don’t fulfill these commitments to the organization, I will expect the board president to discuss my responsibilities with me.

FACE will be responsible to me in several ways:

● I will be given regular financial reports and an update of organizational activities that allow me to act as a responsible and involved board member.
● Opportunities will be offered to discuss with the board president the organization’s programs, goals, activities, and status; additionally, I can request such opportunities.
● The organization will help me perform my duties by keeping me informed about issues in the arts and encourage professional development as a board member.
● Board members and the Oskaloosa Art Center Executive Director will respond in a straightforward fashion to questions that I feel are necessary to carry out my fiscal and legal responsibilities to this organization.

If FACE does not fulfill its commitments to me, I can call on the board president to discuss these
responsibilities.
